Green Day ProfileThe list of artists being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame carries a distinctly punk-flavoured air, with veteran trio Green Day and trailblazing artists such as Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and late Velvet Underground mastermind Lou Reed finally officially entering the echelons of music's immortals.
Next year will also mark the introduction of icons such as Ringo Starr, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, Bill Withers, The "5" Royales and The Paul Butterfield Blues Band. This will be Starr's second induction into the Hall Of Fame, having been inducted in 1988 as part of The Beatles (his collaborator Sir Paul McCartney is also a dual inductee, receiving recognition for his solo work in 1999, while late Beatles John Lennon and George Harrison were also inducted on individual merits in 1994 and 2004 respectively).
However, some nominees that achieved significant support from public votes — most notably Nine Inch Nails, whose 22.20% of votes comes in ahead of Jett's 15.08% — missed out on being inducted this time around: War, Sting, N.W.A, Kraftwerk, nine-time nominees Chic and The Smiths all made the top 15 acts in contention for entry into the Hall Of Fame, but didn't quite make the cut. Still, there's always next year.
The 2015 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony will be held on 18 April, at Cleveland's Public House, and will be broadcast in the US on HBO in May.
