Tinariwen Reveal 2027 Australian Tour Dates

Tinariwen return to Australia and New Zealand for a seven-show run in 2027, with more dates to come.

Grammy Award-winning Tuareg musical pioneers Tinariwen will return to Australia and New Zealand in early 2027, announcing their first tour dates Down Under in three years today.

Presented by Top Shelf, the tour already features seven dates, but according to a press release, more shows are to be announced.

The tour begins at Hobart’s Odeon Theatre on Friday, 26 February. It continues at Sydney’s City Recital Hall on Tuesday, 2 March, Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Wednesday, 3 March, Byron Bay’s The Northern on Thursday, 4 March, WOMADelaide on Sunday, 7 and Monday, 8 March, Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre on Thursday, 11 March, and concludes at WOMAD NZ on Sunday, 14 March.

Earlier this year, Tinariwen released their tenth album, Hoggar. Recorded in Tamanrasset, Algeria – the former home of founding member Ibrahim Ag Alhabib – the album is named after the Hoggar Mountains of southern Algeria, recognised as a refuge for Tuareg people.

Founding members Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, Abdallah Ag Alhousseyni, and Alhassane Ag Touhami sing on each other’s songs for the first time in several albums, and guest performers – Swedish musician José González and Sudanese singer and oud player Sulafa Elyas – feature on the album.

In their 45 years as a performing act, Tinariwen have performed more than 1,270 concerts and released ten albums to an increasingly devoted audience. The desert blues outfit has also collaborated with artists including Kurt Vile, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Micah Nelson, Jack White, Flea and Warren Ellis.
