Flume’s Perfect Chart Debut Halted By Teen Boy Band

19 November 2012 | 10:34 am | Scott Fitzsimons

One Direction, Flume jump Pink and Taylor Swift

More Flume More Flume

Sydney's 21-year-old flavour of the month producer Flume has debuted at two on the ARIA Albums Chart this week, second only to British boy band One Direction.

Flume's Flume – released through Future Classic – had been battling with One Direction's Take Me Home all week on the chart – even getting the better of it on the iTunes chart – but, as predicted, the physical-stock buying power of One Direction's pre-teen audience got them over the line with a platinum record in the first week.

Having only played his first show a year ago, 2012 has been Flume's year and he's been particularly lauded at showcase sets around the world.

As Taylor Swift and Pink fell to three and four respectively, other debuts this week came from Soundgarden at six with King Animal, with The Rolling Stones' latest compilation Grrr!  arriving at eight. Green Day's second release in their ambitious trio of albums, Dos!, just made it into the top ten with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 soundtrack at 11. In a week that sees a lot of change in the top 20, Deftones' Koi No Yokan debuted at 16, with Lana Del Rey's Born To Die – The Paradise edition re-issue and Paradise EP itself debuted at 18 and 19 respectively.

In the ARIA Singles Chart Swedish House Mafia's club-ready Don't You Worry Child retains top spot this week but there were promising signs for locals. X-Factor contestant Samantha Jade's Hearltess debuted at 12, Guy Sebastian's Get Along is at 34 and Flight Facilities and Christine Hoberg's Clair de Lune managed 38. X-Factor's boy band hope The Collective also arrived at 47 with Apologize.
