The first sneaky announcement for next year’s Adelaide Festival
Just to whet the appetite of Adelaide Festival go-ers, the internationally award-winning comedy One Man, Two Guvnors and a rare collaboration between Laurie Anderson and the Kronos Quartet have been confirmed for the 2013 program.
The two events have been announced as a taste of the full program, which is set to be released in October.
One Man, Two Guvnors has seen five star reviews and a trophy room full of awards from its West End and Broadway seasons, and now the National Theatre of Great Britain's production has its Australian premiere at the Adelaide Festival, before venturing to Sydney Theatre Company and a season in Melbourne. The clown-like comedy includes an on-stage band and a variety of slapstick and satiric gags including cross-dressed mobsters and falling trousers.
Festival Artistic Director David Sefton says he is excited to include such a successful production to the lineup.

“I'm a firm believer that art doesn't have to be 'high' to be great. Great entertainment and great art are about execution, quality and excellence.” Sefton said.
“One Man, Two Guvnors is an example of something that is excellent, hilarious, and incredibly accessible for everybody.”
In addition, the Festival will include the first ever collaboration between American experimental performance artist Laurie Anderson and the Grammy-award winning Kronos Quartet.
With Anderson as composer, the performance will include spoken text, written by Anderson, and new songs performed by both acts in a quintet. Next year is momentous for the Kronos Quarter as it marks the string act's 40th anniversary.
David Sefton has worked with both acts, and is excited to see their collaboration.
“It will be a ground-breaking show with two greats of the American cultural landscape whose reputations were forged as they changed the way people thought about music and performance,” he said.
