You Am I To Commemorate ‘Hourly Daily’ 30th Anniversary With String Quartet Shows

One of Australia’s most celebrated and enduring rock bands, You Am I, is celebrating 30 years of their seminal record, Hourly Daily, with an unexpected tour.

For the Strung Up tour, the ARIA Hall of Famers will be joined by a string quartet to reimagine their songs in a spectacular, ambitious new light. The Hourly Daily tracks will be brought to life in a remarkable new fashion – with orchestral takes – along with selections from across their incredible career.

To commemorate the milestone anniversary, You Am I will grace some of the most prestigious venues along the East Coast this October and November.

The tour begins with the band’s debut at the Sydney Opera House on Sunday, 18 October, followed by two nights at Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Thursday, 22 and Friday, 23 October, and two nights at the Melbourne Recital Centre on Thursday, 5 and Friday, 6 November.

Pre-sale tickets will be available on Monday, 29 June, at 10 am AEST, followed by the general sale on Tuesday, 30 June, at 10 am AEST. You can find more ticketing information on the TEG Dainty website.

Commenting on the unusual tour announcement, You Am I frontman Tim Rogers said, “Our peculiar brand of musical thuggery has oft been blessed by instrumental finery. Working with musicians of a less traditional RnR stripe is thrilling and invigorating. Pomp and circumstance with our grubby thumping heart pushing the bunch of us forever onward.”

Upon its release in 1996, Hourly Daily debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart and remains a defining album in Australian music history.

Along with the tour, You Am I are celebrating the album by re-releasing it on vinyl on Friday, 9 October. Plus, they’re unveiling the B-sides and demos collection from the era, Dailies, Seconds.
