Film And Comedy Icon Robin Williams Dies Aged 63

Film, television and comedy icon Robin Williams has died at the age of 63, according to multiple reports from the US this morning.

According to a statement from his publicist Mara Buxbaum the actor, who had been battling depression, was found in his home. He is believed to have died due to asphyxiation.

“This is a tragic and sudden loss,” said the statement. “The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

Williams won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in 1997’s Good Will Hunting, while he also delivered acclaimed and cherished roles in Good Morning, Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, Jumanji and Flubber. He was also an in-demand voice actor and a favourite for children’s films. He rose to prominent in the late '70s TV show Mork & Mindy.

Williams was starring in the TV show The Crazy Ones last season and his cameo appearance on Louie was his most praised guest spot in recent years.

The Fox studio, who will release the third instalment of the Night At The Museum film trilogy later this year said in a statement, “There really are no words to describe the loss of Robin Williams. He was immensely talented, a cherished member of our community, and part of the Fox family. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and fans. He will be deeply missed.”
