Tasmania’s midwinter festival, Dark Mofo, which celebrates the dark through large-scale public art, food, music, fire, light, and noise, returns in 2026. And today, the program for this year’s event has been unveiled.
Dark Mofo returns to Lutruwita/Tasmania from Thursday, 11 to Monday, 22 June. Festival organisers encourage punters to embrace the cold for a fascinating program of art, performance, live music, movies and more.
As in previous years, the 2026 music program is packed with homegrown and international talent, featuring acts spanning hip-hop, heavy metal, EDM, and other experimental sounds.
Artists dubbed Dark Mofo exclusives include:
New York underground hip-hop star Princess Nokia
Irish producer and singer Sega Bodega
Texas thrash metal pioneers Power Trip
Elusive Manchester group WU LYF
Oslo electropop project Sassy 009
New York composer Kelly Moran
Japanese psychedelic group Acid Mothers Temple
London-based electronic duo Headache

Dark Mofo has also commissioned an evening of light and sound from Borderlands.

In addition to music, this year’s Dark Mofo program welcomes the return of its rituals, including the annual Winter Feast, Nude Solstice Swim, and Night Mass. Plus, the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) will host unique experiences, while the festival has commissioned and secured exclusive art and performance events.
Artistic Director Chris Twite said of this year’s program, “On land and sea, Dark Mofo 2026 will rage in cacophony and seek solace in silence.
“Boundary-pushing artists from all over the world will descend on Tasmania to nourish visitors hungry for challenge, discovery and distraction. Their works confront the things that keep us up at night—for better and for worse—and they’ve only become more relevant since we first programmed them.”
