It’s official: rising Noongar Wongi artist INKABEE is now the youngest artist to perform on triple j’s Like A Version.

At just 13 years old, INKABEE was joined by an ultra-talented band as he delivered a soulful take on the Black Eyed Peas’ 2000s hit, Where Is The Love?. The singer and rapper showcased his flow and melodic sensibilities, as well as his respect for traditional R&B.

Bringing his rap skills in the second third, INKABEE didn’t miss a beat when he asked, “Where is the love?” In the last minute of the cover, he raised his vocals an octave, with a chorus of backing singers and claps elevating the track’s soulful feel.

You can check out the cover below.

Ruel was previously the youngest artist to appear on triple j’s Like A Version, who, at 14 years old, accompanied M-Phazes for a cover of Jack Garratt’s Weathered in 2017.

Discussing his Like A Version, INKABEE recalled listening to Where Is The Love? in the car with his mum, knowing he wanted to cover the Black Eyed Peas when he had the opportunity. He also described Fergie as his favourite member of the group.

INKABEE explained that the reason he took on Like A Version was for “all my mob, all my people… I’m just trying to put us on the map.” He also said that he hopes viewers are inspired by his words and admitted that it was his first time performing with a full band.

While in the triple j studio, the young rapper and singer performed his latest single, Vibez, from his forthcoming debut mixtape, set for release on Wednesday, 29 April—his 14th birthday.

Vibez was written by INKABEE and produced by Māori beat-maker and storyteller, TEHIIRI. The track blends smooth R&B textures with rich melodies, revealing a more mature side of the rising artist.

INKABEE explained, “Vibez is about stepping into a new chapter. I’ve grown a lot over the past few years, and this song feels like the start of what’s next for me.”

INKABEE was introduced to the Australian music industry at the age of 11, when, in 2023, he unveiled his first two singles, Saved By The Bell and Beat The Odds. The latter was co-written by his father, award-winning Nyoongar Wongi rapper and activist Flewnt.
