Exclusive: First Look At Melbourne’s Revamped Gasometer

9 May 2014 | 2:50 pm | Staff Writer

Collingwood's stalwart gets a facelift

Melbourne's The Gasometer is the latest venue to undergo a make over, turning the one-time darkened labyrinth into an impressive band room.

New owners of the Collingwood stalwart, Clint Fisher and Shannon Vanderwert, have done more than just slap a new coat of paint on the outside (but they have done that as well) – they've  super-sized the band room.

The room's old English village vibe has left the building – with a wall and the small back bar removed, they have created a 350-capacity area with sightlines a priority.

New carpet and refurbished booths compliment the newly built stage (bands even get access to their own toilet side of stage).

The retractable ceiling remains upstairs but it is now part of a new mural by local artist Cam Scale.

And, with the space de-cluttered, the mezzanine level offers more stage views for punters.

And, the bonus for touring bands here, a penthouse flat is available – small, but tasteful, it's got a better view than any band share house we know of.
