For her second Melbourne show, Dua Lipa has once again thrown an Australian name into the mix during her set.

Dua Lipa has once again shown off her love of Australian music, sharing a cover of Natalie Imbruglia during her recent Melbourne show.
Lipa kicked off the Australian leg of her Radical Optimism tour on Monday night, launching with a 22-song, four-act set that was ended by an encore full of classics. Her first of five sold-out nights at Rod Laver Arena, the question of how to appeal to the local audience undeniably must have entered her mind.
On Monday, Lipa dedicated the penultimate song of her second act to pay tribute to AC/DC, performing Highway To Hell to the stacked arena. Now, she’s once again delved into the great Australian songbook to share a cover of Imbruglia’s Torn on Wednesday night.
It’s worth, of course, pointing out that Torn didn’t actually arrive as an Imbruglia original, upon its release on her 1997 debut, Left Of The Middle. In fact, the song had been penned in 1991, originally released by Lis Sørensen in her native Danish in 1993, before US rock outfit Ednaswap covered it in 1995. The following year, Trine Rein took it to the top ten in Norway with her own version, before Imbruglia made it a global hit in 1997.
Regardless of its convoluted history, the Australian success of the track has long seen it considered a homegrown favourite, with Imbruglia herself taking to Instagram Stories to express her fondness of Lipa’s cover.
“OMG!! I love you Dua Lipa,” Imbruglia wrote, before adding, “My home turf… My heart is full.”

It remains to be seen whether Lipa will continue throwing Australian covers into the mix for her remaining local dates (which wrap up with three nights at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena), and it similarly remains unknown whether she’ll be busting out Melbourne-born artists for her New South Wales shows. Time will tell.
