Doja Cat Says New Album Will Be All Rap Music: 'Pop Isn’t Exciting'

Doja Cat has revealed more details on her forthcoming album, Hellmouth, and it looks like the Need To Know hitmaker will be focusing exclusively on rap tracks.

Posting to Twitter over the weekend, Doja responded to a fan who asked what genre the new album would be, to which she replied, "rap only and “no more pop.” 

She followed it up with another tweet saying, “I also agree with everyone who said the majority of my rap verses are mid and corny. I know they are. I wasn't trying to prove anything I just enjoy making music but I'm getting tired of hearing yall say that I can't so I will.”

One Twitter user responded to the news with, “I hope these comments are not the only thing that pushed you to go full rap…if doing pop and rap is what you like you shouldn’t stop simply because of them,” to which Doja replied, “pop isn’t exciting to me anymore. I don’t wanna make it. No more pop.”

She also posted a screenshot of what looked to be new tracks that were titled Wet, Balut and Agora Hills, with the singer adding that the album will have “10 tracks total +5 extras".

Previously, Doja had hinted that the new record would be a nod to '90s German rave culture. 

"We just have so many ideas and making those ideas consistent is the challenge right now. I can’t really tell much. I just know there’s a lot going on," she answered a question in regards to the music she's working on right now.

"I’m very into this ’90s German rave kind of vibe right now and it’s really fun. I know that’s kind of the trend at the moment but I loved that stuff as a kid and now that I can express it.

"I’m sort of embracing that. That’s kind of a hint to the album. Rave culture, not house."

However, she later backtracked on her previous comments saying: “im not doing a German rave culture album you guys I was pranking the outlet that interviewed me about it.”

She then said she was now working an R&B album before she went on to say it was actually an “experimental jazz album”. 

She once again changed her tune by claiming she would be instead making a rock album - so only time will tell if she sticks to her latest genre change.

The new record follows Doja Cat releasing her chart-smashing Planet Her in 2021, which landed at number 2 on the Billboard 200 charts. The album featured hits including Get Into It (Yuh) and the SZA feature Kiss Me More which dominated the TikTok algorithm.
