Deezer to officially launch in Australia tomorrow
Online music streaming service Deezer, which will officially launch in Australia tomorrow, is set to stream its launch party around the world.
Taking place at Sydney's Oxford Art Factory, the launch – Wednesday 5 December – will feature sets from Flume, Urthboy, Bertie Blackman and Silverchair spin-off Bento, with each artists' set to be streamed through their Facebook pages, as well as the Deezer site.
Deezer confirmed today that Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Thailand and the United Kingdom will take the stream, with more to be confirmed before tomorrow night. International streaming will be on delay, to accommodate for time differences.
One of the most recent streaming service entrants into the Australian market, Deezer are using the stream to highlight their global reach – believed to be160 countries. The French-based streaming service received a $130 million injection of capital earlier this year from Access Industries, the investment company of Russian tycoon Len Blavatnik, who has also picked up the Warner Music Group. Since then Deezer have been on aggressive growth arc into largely 'un-tapped' markets, as well as Australia – which is one of the world's biggest music markets, but undeniably still developing and very, very competitive.
