2020's been rough but Robert Smith is making it a little better for The Cure fans today.
Chatting with the BBC's Steve Lamacq, Smith has revealed that the new album from the legendary group is pretty much ready to go.
"It’s actually benefited me because there have been no other distractions, so I’ve got a lot of what I wanted to do done," said Smith of being in COVID lockdown and the to-do list he'd set for 2020 (finish The Cure album, his own solo work and work with director Tim Pope on a documentary about the band).
Though a release date or any further details haven't been revealed, Smith joked that he'll "just come up with an imaginary date. Pick one".
Last year Smith shared that the album "will delight our hardcore fans. And probably really, really infuriate everyone else". Read the full story here.
The news comes as Smith joins Gorillaz on their new track, Strange Timez, from their forthcoming release, Song Machine.

Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn has shared a delightful story from the track's making today too, revealing that the trumpet on the song was actually played by his nine-year-old niece.
“I was like, ‘You play the trumpet, come on. Come into the studio and do something.’ And she did that," he said.
