HBO's acclaimed drama 'The Leftovers' will film its third season Down Under
Lauded HBO drama series The Leftovers will reportedly film its third and final season in Australia.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Damon Lindelof-helmed series, based on a novel of the same name by co-creator Tom Perrotta, is moving Down Under for on-screen purposes, with the season set to pick up where its predecessor left off — in Texas — before making the trans-hemispheric leap to Oz.
The show deals with the fallout of the mysterious disappearance of 147 million people, or about 2% of the planet's population, in an event known as the 'Sudden Departure', as those left behind deal with the social uncertainty in its wake and the rise of a mysterious cult, the Guilty Remnant.
It stars Justin Theroux (aka Mr Jennifer Aniston) as protagonist Kevin Garvey, Jr, a New York police chief whose wife, Laurie (Amy Brenneman) has left to join the Guilty Remnant, as well as ex-Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Chris Zylka, Margaret Quolley and Carrie Coon, with recurring spots from Scott Glenn (Daredevil), Paterson Joseph (Peep Show), Turk Pipkin (A Scanner Darkly) and more.

This won't be the first time that The Leftovers has switched up its landscape — having covered the entirety of Perrotta's novel in its initial season, the show upped and moved from New York state to a small-town Texas settting, with production moving to Austin for its second season.
Filming is set to begin in Australia next month.
