“We’d been pushing a sort of ’70s Australian punk sound with our first two records, but I think we wanted to take it in a different direction,” guitarist Lewis Hodgson explained of 'Chrome Dipped'.

2025 looks to be the year of CIVIC, with the explosive Naarm/Melbourne quartet announcing the release of their forthcoming new album, Chrome Dipped.
Set for release on May 30th, their third album follows on from the release of 2023’s Taken By Force, which received plenty of acclaim from the band’s diehard fanbase. Following that album, the band have only issued one new single since, with Hourglass arriving in September 2023.
Now, they’ve previewed their new record with the release of the title track, with Chrome Dipped arriving alongside a Marcus Coblyn-directed video. According to the band, the song “is about finding human emotion and a world that’s hurling towards complete reliance on the machine.”
While the group’s sound had won them a voracious group of fans across their first few releases, Chrome Dipped sees them venturing into new territory. With Kirin J Callinan on production, and the album recorded at Tasmania’s Museum Of Old And New Art (MONA), it’s a fresh undertaking for the group.
“We’d been pushing a sort of ’70s Australian punk sound with our first two records, but I think we wanted to take it in a different direction,” guitarist Lewis Hodgson explained. “I think it was all starting to feel a bit stale.”
“We kind of stuck to the rules a little bit earlier on like, do Australian punk rock properly and all that,” he adds. “But after touring around the world and seeing what all these other bands are up to it’s like, you can really do whatever the fuck you want. And so it’s fun to just kind of let go.

“I hope people feel a little confused at first. Then a bit angry, and then feel good, and then interested, and then they feel like, ‘Oh, this is sick.’ That process exactly. I hope it’s a bit challenging.”
CIVIC already have a hectic schedule ahead of them for 2025, with tour dates planned for the US, Europe, and the UK between May and July, but they’ll be hitting up local shores in just a matter of days as support for the Sex Pistols featuring Frank Carter. Tickets to those shows are available now, while pre-orders for Chrome Dipped are available now.
