May is about to get a bit madder, with The Coolangatta Hotel announcing Sydney rock band C.O.F.F.I.N to headline their Mayday Madness event.

Taking place on Saturday, May 3 - coinciding with the beginning of the World Surf League weekend - Mayday Madness is set to be “pure surf-punk-rock chaos”. According to a press release, the event “isn’t just another gig - it’s a full-throttle, high-energy, barrel wrapped celebration of surf, creativity, music, and mateship.”

Joining C.O.F.F.I.N will be Brisbane rockers Radium Dolls, Northern Rivers’ indie-rock-fusion artists Thirst Trap, and Byron’s indie-punk outfit Off Judy

Presented by 88 Productions and Coastals Hard Coco Water, the event will be sure to have alcoholic coconut water (and regular bevvies) flowing all night.

Pre-sale for Mayday Madness is open now via Oztix, at $35.20 pp - and general sale, set to open on March 11, will be priced at $40 + a booking fee.

“Picture this: froth lords, music heads, babes, and bogans shoulder to shoulder, sinking tinnies, waves of distortion crashing over the crowd harder than a rogue set at Snapper, and a mosh pit that smells like beer, sand, sweat, Sex Wax, and bad decisions,” the press release read.

“This is proper live music. No gimmicks, no fluff - just raw, loud, grungy, and full-throttle Aussie punk and rock from some of the BEST up and coming bands in Australia.”

C.O.F.F.I.N are not to be missed live. In a 2024 review for The Music, Guido Farnell wrote about their “short but heavy set of tough-as-nails hard rock” at Melbourne’s The Forum.

“Musically, these guys are as hard as it gets, but screams of ‘always was, always will be’ and ‘fuck colonisation’ in between songs suggest hearts of gold driving the proceedings. They have that distinctive eighties Aussie pub rock vibe about them, which feels nostalgic. Essentially a boozy party band, tossing back a V.B. to the sounds of C.O.F.F.I.N feels alright.”
