Better get in quick
Celebrated British singer-songwriter/composer/all-round prodigy Blood Orange will step out in Sydney for a warm-up show ahead of his slot at January's impending Sugar Mountain festival in Melbourne, it has been announced.
The veteran musician — once known as Lightspeed Champion, still known to select parties as Devonte "Dev" Hynes — will flex his formidable pipes with a one-off show at the Enmore Theatre the night before heading down to Victoria for Sugar Mountain.
It'll be the first trip to Australian shores for the lauded performer since 2012, when he landed in the wake of still-championed sophomore full-length Cupid Deluxe, which the erudite folks at Pitchfork slugged as one of the albums of the decade. He's collaborated with the likes of Debbie Harry, Nelly Furtado, Carly Rae Jepsen and Empress Of, all of whom featured on his widely lauded new album Freetown Sound, as well as several others.
The album itself, Blood Orange's third, is an oversize cornucopia of aural delights, jamming in 17 tracks of pop-steeped politico-philosophy that defies definition as frequently as it leaves its listeners speechless. This ought to be a special outing indeed, and one of which you'd be well advised to try to be a part when the floodgates open.
