The hunt is on for the northern region's shining stars

MusicNT has opened up the field for registration for the 2014 iteration of the Northern Territory's Barkly Divas program.

The three-day event, held from August 28-31 at Barkly Arts, is designed for Indigenous women from the Barkly region who possess a passion for music and a desire to learn, and provides participants with the chance to take part in a series of singing, songwriting, industry and skill-building workshops.

Alumni of the program will be rewarded with the opportunity to appear at a showcase during BAMFest, part of the 2014 Desert Harmony Festival in Tennant Creek, at which they will perform songs composed during the course of the Barkly Divas program.

The workshop series has previously yielded noteworthy results for its work with rising Indigenous artists such as Catherine Satour, Jacinta Price, Mandy Garling, Rita Tomlins and Cassandra Williams.

This year, the eager musos will be provided with expert guidance from an esteemed roster of mentors including Melburnian rocker Dallas Frasca, of the band that shares her name; Stephanie Harrison, of Alice Springs outfit Bat Hazzard; MusicNT marketing and communications officer Amy Hetherington; and Kirra Voller, a previous participant and mentor of the program.

The three-day Barkly Divas program, from August 28-31, will run from 10am-4pm each day, with the BAMFest showcase falling on August 31 at 5pm.

For more information, or to register, see the Barkly Divas website.
