January 2026 marked the 20th anniversary of Cat Power’s seminal seventh album, The Greatest. And this November and December, the renowned American singer-songwriter will return to Australia and New Zealand to celebrate the anniversary.

Cat Power, aka Chan Marshall, recorded The Greatest in Memphis with members of the Hi Rhythm section in May 2005. With her seventh record, Cat Power embraced Southern soul music and put her own spin on it.

In addition to taking the album on tour, Matador Records will celebrate the milestone with a 20th anniversary edition of The Greatest on Friday, 10 July. Pre-order the release here.

Cat Power’s upcoming tour starts in New Zealand, performing at Auckland’s Bruce Mason Centre on Thursday, 26 November, and The Opera House in Wellington on Friday, 27 November. From there, the tour continues in Australia.

The Australian shows commence at Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Monday, 30 November, and continue at Geelong’s Costa Hall on Wednesday, 2 December, Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens – as part of the city’s Live At The Gardens series – on Thursday, 3 December, Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall on Saturday, 5 December, the Sydney Opera House on Monday, 7 December, the Canberra Theatre Centre on Wednesday, 9 December, and Perth’s Astor Theatre on Friday, 11 December.

In New Zealand, Cat Power will be joined by local artist Lawrence Arabia, and for her Live At The Gardens performance, special guests Courtney Marie Andrews and Hedge Burners will open the show.

Pre-sale tickets will be available on Wednesday, 17 June, at 9 am local time, followed by the general sale on Friday, 19 June, at 9 am local time. You can find more ticketing information on the Love Police website.

In 2007, Cat Power became the first woman to win the prestigious Shortlist Music Prize following the release of The Greatest. Singer-songwriter KT Tunstall, who served on the panel of judges, described the album as “An immediate classic that will never age.”
