Oliver Tree, the US musician best known for his eccentric online personality and tracks such as Life Goes On and Miss You, has passed away at the age of 32.

Per the Associated Press, Tree was one of six individuals who passed away as the result of a mid-air collision involving two helicopters in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sunday, June 14th.

Tree was in South America as part of his The World’s First World Tour, which launched on May 30th, with the singer performing the tour's fourth date in São Paulo on June 6th. He was expected to resume the tour in Portugal on July 1st.

Officials have reported that Tree was one of five passengers on a AS350 alongside Argentinian director Lucas Vignale, Argentinian YouTuber Gaspar 'Gaspi' Prim, Brazilian music producer Lucas Frota, and pilot Alexandre Souza. Charles Marsillac, the pilot of the other helicopter, a Bell 206, also perished in the accident.

Born in 1993 as Oliver Tree Nickell, Tree first began releasing music in late teens, issuing his debut EP Demons in 2013, with even Radiohead's Thom Yorke expressing approval of his music. Following a hiatus to study, Tree returned to music in 2016, with a handful of EPs preceding the release of his Ugly Is Beautiful album in 2020.

He impacted the Aussie charts in 2021 with his Life Goes On single, which peaked at No. 34, improving upon that the following year when his song Miss You (a remixed version of his song Jerk by Robin Schulz) went to No. 4.

Alongside his musical career, Tree also curated a strong following online, with his work blurring the lines between the roles of online content creator and performance artist. With a unique brand of humour and a striking aesthetic (including his trademark bowl cut), Tree also broke the Guinness World Record for the largest kick scooter in 2021.

Tree issued the albums Cowboy Tears and Alone In A Crowd in 2022 and 2023, respectively, before his most recent album – Love You Madly Hate You Badly – arrived in April.

He made his Australian live debut as part of 2020's Laneway Festival, returning for Splendour In The Grass in 2022 and Yours & Owls in 2023. His most recent visit to the country was in February 2025, with a sole performance in Tasmania for Party In The Paddock.

Tree’s recent world tour had plans for more than 70 dates (including a reported show in Antarctica), with headline tour of Australia – featuring stops in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, and Perth – scheduled for October.
