Last month, The Music reported on Avenged Sevenfold’s possible return to Australia after a devastatingly long 14-year wait, following the band’s teasing of their long-awaited return to Asia.

Days later, the American heavy metal outfit confirmed that they’d be touring in Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The shows are taking place in stadiums this September and October. With Australia’s proximity to Indonesia in particular, speculation has run rife about the band finally returning Down Under.

At the time of publication, no tour dates have been confirmed or even teased, but judging by the dates in Asia, it’s safe to expect that the band will bring their show to Australia in October and/or November. And, we can expect an official tour announcement sooner rather than later.

This morning, Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena dropped the most significant teaser to date, sharing a short video on social media showcasing lyrics and images inspired by the band’s most recent album, 2023’s Life Is But a Dream…, as well as their longtime logo, the deathbat, in a video billboard in Melbourne’s CBD.

The venue captioned the post, “you didn’t think they’d stay away forever, did you?” with the bat emoji.

Rod Laver Arena’s official post comes after Wall of Sound rounded up images of large-scale video billboards in Melbourne and Brisbane, plus a billboard at a bus shelter in Sydney.

Avenged Sevenfold last played for fans on our shores in March 2014, co-headlining Soundwave Festival alongside Green Day.

In addition to their Soundwave performances, the band played sideshows at Melbourne’s Festival Hall and Sydney’s Luna Park in support of their 2013 album, Hail to the King. Since their last visit to Australia, the band has released two more albums: 2016’s The Stage and 2023’s Life Is But a Dream….

Their 2023 full-length was led by the fascinating Black Sabbath-influenced single, Nobody. The track was Avenged Sevenfold’s first new song since the previously unreleased number from the Hail to the King sessions, Set Me Free, in 2020.
