Aussie Labels Unite To Take On US Indie Week This June

More than 10 locally built record labels will head to New York for a four-day conference in a couple of months

Several major forces of the Australian music industry will descend upon New York City this June for the 2016 Indie Week conference as the Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR), Sounds Australia and the Phonographic Performance Company Of Australia (PPCA) once again spearhead the charge of organisations heading abroad.

Once there, the labels will engage in the invite-only conference for independent record labels and service providers, which last year saw more than 850 executives from more than 15 countries and 24 states converge to discuss all things recording, licensing, digital and more.

This year's cabal of Australian labels is the biggest to head to Indie Week since AIR, PPCA and Sounds Australia first started taking delegations in 2013, with Remote Control co-founder and 2015 Indie Week alum Steve Cross saying of the event, "It was great to catch up with so many people who are committed to independent music and discuss the challenges and opportunities we are all experiencing."

Added AIR chief executive Dan Nevin, "Indie Week is a key global event for independent labels, presenting significant opportunities for labels to extend their international networks and learn from global insights, ultimately assisting labels to develop their businesses in line with international peers."

Indie Week 2016 goes down at NY Marriott East Side, New York City, from 13-17 June.
