Lil Nas X could avoid felony charges for alleged battery of a police officer if he completes a mental health program, a judge has ruled.

In August 2025, the Old Town Road star, born Montero Hill, was arrested after he was found walking the streets naked and allegedly charged at police officers in Los Angeles.

Following his arrest at 6:10 am and subsequent hospitalisation for a potential drug overdose, Reuters noted that Hill was being held in jail in Van Nuys, California. Upon his hospitalisation, Hill was reportedly diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said that officers responded to a call about a naked man on Ventura Boulevard just before 6 am and that Lil Nas X charged at officers when they arrived.

According to footage of the incident obtained by TMZ, Hill was only wearing underwear and cowboy boots, and he claimed he was going to a party.

“He was transported to a local hospital for a possible overdose and placed under arrest for battery on a police officer,” police said (per NBC News).

If convicted, Hill faced up to five years in prison.

Now, Rolling Stone reports that California Judge Alan Schneider has ordered Hill to undergo a mental health treatment program, which started on Monday (6 April), to avoid conviction.

The singer and rapper can avoid conviction if he sticks with the treatment program for bipolar disorder, obeys the law, does not possess any weapons, or threatens violence for two years. If he follows those conditions, the three charges of battery of a police officer and resisting arrest charge will be dropped.

“When treated, he is much better off, and society is much better off,” Judge Schneider said, also noting that Hill “appears to be doing very well.”

Hill told Rolling Stone after the Judge’s ruling, “I’m thankful. Just very thankful. It could have been much worse.”
