This year’s Eurovision Song Contest was a surefire hit for SBS, with millions of viewers tuning in to watch the annual competition and find out if Delta Goodrem could take it home for Australia. Ultimately, she came fourth in the Grand Final, but that didn’t stop locals from watching the broadcast.

SBS has crunched the numbers from its live, prime-time and SBS On Demand broadcasts of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest. For the live and prime time airings, more than 3.27 million Aussies tuned in, and on SBS On Demand, the streamer reached 538,000 viewers.

The 2026 figures marked a significant increase over last year’s, with Total TV Reach up 45.2%.

Sunday’s Grand Final live broadcast reached 1.21 million viewers, while SBS On Demand found 226,000 viewers. The Grand Final featured Delta Goodrem, as did Semi Final 2. The latter reached 444,000 viewers on TV and 83,000 viewers watching via SBS On Demand.

The weakest numbers were recorded for Semi Final 1, which found 263,000 viewers on its Total TV National Reach, and 48,000 for SBS On Demand.

In a statement, SBS’s Head of Unscripted, Joseph Maxwell, shared that Goodrem’s headline-making performance lifted this year’s ratings, while the annual talent competition once again delivered on joy, drama, and excitement.

“From showstopping vocals and spectacular staging to unforgettable performances that had audiences talking around the world, this year’s Eurovision Song Contest once again delivered all the joy, drama and excitement fans have come to love,” Maxwell said.

“It’s fantastic to see Delta Goodrem’s mesmerising performance lift this year’s ratings and take the broadcast to spectacular new heights.”

Goodrem said of representing Australia at Eurovision, “Representing Australia on the Eurovision stage and being part of this incredible community has been unforgettable. I’m so grateful for all the love and support from home and around the world; it has carried me every step of the way.

“Sharing Eclipse with you at this moment feels perfectly timed, and I’m excited to continue the journey we’ve started together and to share new music with you soon! From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”

Along with Delta Goodrem, the SBS broadcast featured commentary from Courtney Act alongside special guest commentator, Eurovision alum, Voyager’s Danny Estrin.
