On paper, punk plus traditional Mexican instrumentation and get ups sounds like a bad joke. But The Bronx's Mariachi double self is serious business. Having released album numero dos as Mariachi El Bronx in August, the band are set to rock Big Day Out crowds across the country next year. Ahead of their return down under in January, we caught up with drummer Jorma Vik to talk a bit about either incarnation of The Bronx and a lot about a really messed up story regarding Fletcher from Pennywise.

Tonight Alive have covered the hit single "Little Lion Man" by British folk rock band Mumford & Sons. The Sydney pop punkers' rendition of the song will appear on the forthcoming "Punk Goes Pop 4" compilation, which also features a Bruno Mars cover by Pierce The Veil, Silverstein 

The Hi-Fi has announced via it's website that it plans to open a Sydney version of the iconic venue, following the venue's longstanding tenure in Melbourne since 1997 and its successful expansion to Brisbane. Very few details concerning the new venue have been released at this point, with their website stating simply:

Amandale Palmer and Brian Viglione have announced that they will bring their Dresden Dolls project to Australia for the first time in four years in January. The self-described Brechtian punk cabaret duo will undertake an extensive tour, stopping in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Japanese experimantal rockers Boris have announced a brief run of East Coast dates in February next year. The tour will mark the band's first return to Australia following their sold out appearances at 2010's Sydney Vivid Festival, and will see them performing intimate club shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Florida Christian metalcore band Underoath have announced via a revealing tweet that they have entered a hometown studio to begin recording new material. The songs will presumably be a part of the band's follow-up to 2010's well-received 'Disambiguation', which marked the first time the band had released an album without long-time drummer and vocalist Aaron Gillespie in tow.

Australian metalcore giants Parkway Drive have announced an extensive regional tour across the east coast this summer. The Sick Summer 2012 Tour will feature stops in many small towns that are neglected all too often by the touring circuit, kicking off in Lake Kawana on the Sunshine Coast on February 16th.The shows will mark a rare return to more intimate venues for the band, with many of the rooms holding little more than a few hundred kids. It's final stop will be Melbourne's Pushover Festival on March 12th.On the inspiration behind a second Sick Summer Tour, frontman Winston McCall said:"For us it means a chance to hit the road in the country we love and play as many of those places we don’t get to stop at as much. We figure the major cities have had their chance so its time to bring the show back to regional Australia, and lets see how crazy the small towns can get.
