Last year, the cap for performing artists booking shows at Suncorp Stadium doubled from six to twelve as part of the Queensland government’s bid to support the venue post-COVID.

That number stayed throughout 2023 and this year, and now, after a successful trial period, the number of concerts hosted at Suncorp Stadium annually will be permanently increased to twelve. The permanent new measure begins in 2025.

“We know there was strong community support, which is terrific,” the state’s Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace remarked on Sunday (25 August) via The Brisbane Times. “75 per cent of the local residents were very much in favour of this.”

Grace added that extra shows at Suncorp Stadium “will bring more events, more jobs, [and] we’ll see greater economic outcomes for not only the businesses around here, but Brisbane as a whole.”

Caxton Street Development Association President Sarosh Mehta previously said about the lifting of the cap at Suncorp Stadium for significant events:

“It’s not just about the traders on Caxton Street; it’s all of Brisbane. It’s people booking accommodation, ride-sharing, more employment for more staff and security. All in all, I see it as a very beneficial thing to have.”

While an initial proposal was made to lift the cap on concerts booked at Suncorp Stadium, the state government also suggested that multiple concerts by one artist be counted as one show. This would mean that P!nk’s recent double-header at the venue would be counted as one gig, as would Ed Sheeran’s three shows there.

Suncorp Stadium is currently home to the Brisbane Broncos, Dolphins, Reds, and Roar sporting teams.

When their seasons aren’t so active, however, the venue hosts shows such as Travis Scott’s Circus Maximus tour, which is coming up (26 October). It has previously welcomed Bon Jovi, U2, Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard, Paul McCartney, and many more.
