Townsville is about to see the reopening of an iconic music venue.
The Warehouse, which hasn’t hosted live music on its stage in nearly 40 years, will reopen on Friday, 2 May.
Located within The Mansfield Hotel in central Townsville, the venue will return to life with local, national, and international artists and bands, as well as DJs, taking the stage. It will cater to up to 700 punters, feature a glam rock speakeasy, and include upgrades to lighting and audiovisuals.
The venue will host performances by Spiderbait and The Presets for its grand opening weekend. Last week, Australian metal outfit King Parrot announced that they have a gig to come at The Warehouse, although it will be held later in May.
Additional acts that will perform at The Warehouse in May include Peking Duk and tribute show Creedence - The John Fogerty Show, while comedian Ben Knight will perform in June and reggae group The Beautiful Girls in July.
The Warehouse was the place to be if you loved live music throughout the ‘80s. Then, it hosted Jimmy Barnes, INXS, and Midnight Oil, among others, who belted out the hits for the local music community in Townsville.

According to a press release, ticketed events will be held at the venue on Friday and Saturday nights following its reopening. Live music lovers can “look forward to over 100 shows a year,” with more to be announced.
Spiderbait will play a headline performance on Friday, 2 May, at 7 pm. The following night at 8 pm, The Presets will take to the stage. On Sunday, 4 May, from 12 pm to 5 pm, a range of local and up-and-coming artists will perform.
Tickets for all three nights—and information about the other upcoming events—are available now via the venue’s website.
In addition to The Warehouse’s reopening, the adjoining Mansfield Hotel has reopened its doors, ready to serve punters a pre or post-show meal or drink of fresh tap beer. The Mansfield Hotel has served the community since 1899.
