"It’s a testament to the opportunity of Australia becoming a global songwriting powerhouse," said APRA AMCOS CEO Dean Ormston.

The 2025 APRA Awards have been announced in Melbourne this evening, with some of the biggest names in Aussie music walking away victorious.
Handed out at a ceremony at Melbourne Town Hall, this year’s awards were headlined by none other than Amyl And The Sniffers, who took out the prestigious peer-voted APRA Song Of The Year category thanks to their 2024 single U Should Not Be Doing That.
The award is just another notch in the belt of the Melbourne four-piece, who achieved their second consecutive #2 placing on the Aussie charts thanks to last year’s Cartoon Darkness. Most recently, they also performed at both weekends of the 2025 Coachella festival in California – one of the few Aussie acts on the bill.
Troye Sivan was named as Songwriter Of The Year, just a year on from his win of Song Of The Year for Rush at the 2024 Awards. "Songwriting is my favorite thing that I get to do," Sivan said in a statement alongside his win. "I think it'll be something that I do for the rest of my life."
The biggest winner on the night, however, was arguably Tame Impala's own Kevin Parker, who nabbed both Most Performed Australian Work and Most Performed Pop Work for his role in Dua Lipa's Houdini. The track was co-written by Parker alongside Lipa and Caroline Ailin, Daniel Harle, and Tobias Jesso Jr., with the Aussie representation enough to see it score the psych rock icon two awards.

While Keanu Beats (that is, Keanu Torres) was given the International Recognition Award, Royal Otis masterminds Otis Pavolvic and Royel Maddell were named the Emerging Songwriter Of The Year. Sia's Unstoppable was named the Most Performed Australian Work Overseas and Tate McRae's Greedy was deemed the Most Performed International Work.
On the genre front, Ziggy Alberts took out the Most Performed Blues & Roots Work, while Cooper Alan took out country and Dom Dolla was the victor in the dance and electronic genre. Make Them Suffer, Lithe, and Kaiit were the winners in hard rock and heavy metal, hip hop and rap, and R&B and soul, respectively, while King Stingray took out the rock genre for Through The Trees.
Lastly, Kylie Minogue was formally awarded the already-announced Ted Albert Award For Outstanding Service To Australian Music. “Thank you so much, APRA,” Minogue said in a statement. This is such an honour; I am completely over the moon. I’m only sad that I’m not with you in person.”
“17-year-old me would not be able to compute the life that music has given me. I mean, we all know it’s work. You work for it, but I feel like whatever we give and whatever it might take from us, we receive more.
“As I’m on tour at the moment, I’m singing songs throughout my entire catalogue,” she added. “So, from the first one, The Locomotion, right up to songs from Tension, and I’m really aware of...the passage of time and how much more music means to me.”
In another statement, APRA AMCOS CEO Dean Ormston noted how the ceremony celebrates the local and international achievements of Aussie songwriters. “It’s heartwarming to see so many first-time winners this year, showcasing the incredible breadth of talent Australia produces, and it’s a testament to the opportunity of Australia becoming a global songwriting powerhouse," he said.
“With an election just days away, we hope that both sides of government can see the immense talent we have here, and the opportunities to build a stronger, fairer, more vibrant future for Australian music, recognising our music as the global cultural powerhouse and valuable export that it so clearly is.”
