Fun-loving Melbourne/Naarm-based rock outfit Porpoise Spit return with another taste from their forthcoming second album, What's It Like Down There, slated for an October release. The new music video is exclusively premiering on The Music.

Their new single, The Boys, is an anthemic wonder, joyful and amusing, recalling the raw power of iconic tracks such as Don Henley’s Boys Of Summer, Thin Lizzy’s The Boys Are Back In Town, and Kenny Loggins’s Playing With The Boys. It’s not hard to imagine this Porpoise Spit hit-in-the-making soundtracking shirtless pilots playing volleyball on the beach.

The group say, with a cheeky glint, "The Boys is a state of mind, a feeling, a commitment to a sacred pact of mateship and tomfoolery. Which pretty much sums Porpoise Spit right up. So why can’t everyone be the boys?"

Surprisingly, Porpoise Spit were originally unsure whether to include The Boys on the album, despite pleas from the producer, management, friends, and family.

But the band agreed to road test it by dropping the track mid-set at The Tote in May - and a decision was made for them, as a fire was lit under the audience and the group were faced with the surprising spectacle of the crowd singing the chorus back to them, having only heard it 90 seconds ago.

The single is accompanied by an infectiously fun music video, which sees the band members fully embrace their mate-y boy personas. Costumes abound. Fake facial hair, construction worker outfits, toy barbecues and sausages, briefcases, and ‘G’Day Mate’ tattoos all feature.

Porpoise Spit will launch the single with a show at Thornbury Bowls Club on July 18th, featuring special guest Bingo caller Our Carlson and rock'n'roll from Licklash.

Until then, get in the groove by watching Porpoise Spit’s music video for The Boys. It’s impossible not to nod your head and sing along.
