Ahead of the single release this Friday, Adelaide artist Indy Stanton has revealed the nostalgic video for Small Talk, premiering today on theMusic.com.au.
'90s TV fans will be familiar with the feel of the music video, inspired by the famous scene in Friends when Ross and Rachel have an unofficial date at the laundromat ("If you want this cart, you're gonna have to take me with it!").
"Laundromats for me have always been like this fantasy type thing - they’re these romantic settings in American movies where you fall in love with the person who always uses the machine next to yours — or even in Friends, Rachel and Ross have this sort of unofficial date there and it just completely romanticised the idea of the laundromat in my head," the 22-year-old songwriter says.
"The reason this story is set there is because it had the colour aesthetic we were going for, as well as the fact that laundry goes round and round in circles - much like my love life.
"It’s hard to explain but the laundromat for me was the perfect setting to sort of open up and analyse this vicious cycle my love life had gotten itself into."
Following Small Talk's release, Stanton will gear up for an album release in late 2018, as well as a headline tour of Australia.
