Brisbane-based independent music company G.Y.R.O.Get Your Record Out — is asking for something new: Go To A Gig.

The company has officially started its new initiative by unveiling Australia’s first-ever gig club. Like a book club or run club, it unites people who would previously embark on those activities solo with like-minded individuals who also don’t want to go to a gig alone.

“@gotoagig is a community built around going to live music together,” G.Y.R.O. explained in a recent post they shared on Instagram.

They added, “Show up. Meet new people. Discover Australian artists you wouldn’t have found on your own. Think run club, but for music lovers.”

Go To A Gig was born from the knowledge that for many, the love of live music isn’t enough if it means they have to attend a show by themselves. The initiative builds a new gig community, because going to shows alone “shouldn’t be a reason to miss out.”

“The idea came to me when thinking through how we could get more people discovering great Australian talent,” Alison Bremner, General Manager of Marketing at GY.R.O., explained in a statement.

She continued, “People are craving genuine connection, and they want to find music through live experiences. Go To A Gig brings both of those things together in the best possible setting — a live venue, a great artist and people you haven’t met yet.”

The program is about bringing small groups of people together for a great show – no awkward introductions or small talk necessary. The first gig? Local surf rockers Mid Drift at The Triffid in Brisbane on Saturday, 6 June.

How does it work? You can head to G.Y.R.O. Group’s website for Go To A Gig to see its upcoming events – more will be announced soon. You can then pick an artist you’re interested in seeing live and purchase your tickets.

From there, registering your attendance will partner you with a small group of other music fans in your city who want to attend the same gig, but don’t want to be by themselves. Before the show, you can meet your new concert buddies, go to the gig, and form a new community.

You can find more information on G.Y.R.O. Group’s website and fill in its form to be the first to know when the initiative touches down in your city. Also, keep an eye on the Go To A Gig Instagram for updates as they arrive.
