The Adelaide shoegazers are back with the final release from their upcoming sophomore EP.
Sunsick Daisy (Evie Wonder)
The sun-soaked darlings of the Adelaide indie scene are back.
Sunsick Daisy have certainly marked themselves as ones to watch ever since their ecstatic genesis: the release of their debut single ‘Someone Like You’ led to widespread recognition, securing them a place as Triple J Unearthed High Finalists in 2022. They then released their debut EP to critical acclaim, and have since shared the stage with the likes of Ball Park Music, Teenage Joans, and aleksiah.
And now, fresh off an electric performance at Nice Day To Go To The Club Festival, Sunsick Daisy are set to release their dazzling new single, ‘It’ll Be Alright.’ It is perhaps their poppiest song yet, while still allowing itself to pay homage to the band’s shoegaze roots with full-bodied guitar and dreamy, faraway vocals. Sunny, atmospheric, and gently textural, ‘It’ll Be Alright’ is the perfect soundtrack for the haze of late summer.
The song ‘is about those people in your life who make you feel safe and secure in your lowest moments of self-doubt,” explains the band’s vocalist Sarah. “It’s one of our most uplifting tracks yet, with a reassuring message that no matter what life throws at you, it’ll be alright.’

The past few weeks have seen the four-piece enjoying a sprawling national tour, with various stops still to go in Newcastle, Sydney, Canberra, Wollongong, and Melbourne later this month.
With lots to look forward to, Sunsick Daisy have joined us for a Q&A to give readers some insight into their process, influences, music recommendations, and their current take on the Adelaide music scene.
You guys are Adelaide’s beloved shoegazers. Do you have any recommendations for people who are looking to get into shoegaze but don’t know where to begin? Who should they listen to?
We take a lot of inspiration from bands Ride, Slowdive, and Swervedriver - three bands that really pioneered the genre and still have a huge impact on music today. Slowdive’s ‘Souvlaki’ is a perfect gateway album, with lush and dreamy sounds.
We also love modern bands like Slow Pulp and Hatchie, who bring their own twist to the sound.
What is one thing you love about the Adelaide music scene and what is one thing you wish you could change?
One thing we love about the Adelaide music scene is how ridiculously talented everyone is. There is also a strong sense of community here- Adelaide artists are always supporting each other and coming to shows.
One thing we would change would be the amount of attention Adelaide music gets, because the artists here are amazing. More touring acts stopping through would be great as it is such an incredible music scene.
‘It’ll Be Alright’ has such a sunny, summery vibe. How did you go about creating that sound?
We focused on adding fun tones and counter melodies - things buried in the mix that make it sound pretty, lush and energetic. There’s pianos and lots of experimenting with effects pedals.
Do you have any recommendations of songs (especially by Adelaide-artists) that have that similar sound of summer?
‘Ceiling Fan’ by Swapmeet isn’t necessarily “summery” in the traditional sense, but it gives you a beautiful euphoric feeling when you’re listening to it. ‘Clothes Off’ by our dear friend aleksiah is another standout and of course ‘Stuck On You’ by West Thebarton.
How are you feeling about the release of your upcoming sophomore EP? If you could pick three words to describe the sound/vibe of the EP, what would you choose?
We are incredibly excited for our new EP - we feel so confident and connected to it. A lot of work went into this EP and we couldn’t be prouder. If we were to describe it in three words they would be: Eclectic, Fun, and Emotive.
‘It’ll Be Alright’ is out on Wednesday, March 5th.
