More Howlite More Howlite

Melbourne trio Howlite have unveiled their atmospheric new single, Saviour, in conjunction with a trio of hometown shows this and next month.

Billed as a "hymn for the atheist", Saviour is a smoky, smooth number that draws not only on religious imagery but southern blues and gospel to create its lush and layered soundscape.

"I tried to capture the raw emotions and joy of choral singing," vocalist Alison Thom said in a statement. "When I wrote the refrain in the chorus of the song, I imagined it being sung a cappella by a church choir.

"Much of the lyrical content was inspired by one of my favourite poems, called Ishtar Awakens In Chicago, by Mohja Kahf, which talks about feminine strength and self-assurance."

The band will be launching the new single at Polyester Records next Friday, 27 October, as well as helping Seattle Fix launch their EP at Revolver Bandroom on Saturday 4 November and supporting General Assembly's album launch at The Toff In Town on Thursday 16 November.

Saviour itself will be released digitally tomorrow, 20 October, and in a limited 7" vinyl physical format (available 27 October).
