'It’s Hard To Push Back The Fear': Jay Watson Steps Into The Light As GUM

PREMIERE: Fleur Green & The Keepers Unveil Quirky New Single

"I always loved her name and I based the song on the role she played in the opera."

Adelaide alt-pop masters Fleur Green & The Keepers have unveiled a charming and playful new single in Nadia.

The percussion-laced ballad utilises chiming vibraphone, brittle xylophone, strings and horns and is taken from the band’s debut album, When The Tide Rushes In, due for release in November.

“Nadia is the name of a friend of mine who I met on set at the Adelaide run of the Opera Australia production of La Boheme,” Green said. “We developed a great friendship after sharing a dressing room. I always loved her name and I based the song on the role she played in the opera – a lady of the night.”

Nadia and the other 11 songs on the upcoming LP were recorded at Chapel Lane Studios with producer Tom Barnes (Shaolin Afronauts, Max Savage, Cosmo Thundercats) and as a whole convey an important message.

“I'm a strong supporter of the destigmatisation of mental illness and the creation of artistic work that provides insight into the many facets of having a severe mental illness,” she explains. “Mental health issues are still stigmatized in this country and perhaps they should be revered in some instances."

Fleur Green & The Keepers launch Nadia at Wheatsheaf Hotel this Friday, September 30. Check out theGuide for more info.
