Gaybies

The script for Gaybies was drawn straight from interviews with people aged four to 40 who have been raised by same-sex parents, surrogate mums and donor dads. The play — written by Dean Bryant and directed by Kris Stewart (Brisbane Powerhouse Artistic Director) — was originally developed by Melbourne Theatre Company and received a standing ovation on opening night. Gaybies has also been praised for its "honest, ingenious sense of smart theatre" by none other than Geoffrey Rush.

Dangerous Liaisons

When you Google, "It was beyond my control," up comes Jeremy Irons in footage of that break-up scene from the movie version of Dangerous Liaisons (1988). Crushing. Christopher Hampton's adaptation promises that, with the traditional gender roles blurred, it will reach new levels of irreverence, and queer theatre collective Little Ones Theatre is bound to enhance the risque. Plus there's Chaka Khan songs reimagined on the harpsichord! Sex, betrayal and bad behaviour? It just never gets old.

Cat Power

If you haven't yet had the pleasure of experiencing Cat Power (aka Chan Marshall) live, it's high time you did. And if you've already seen her, you'll certainly be back for more. Marshall was chosen to narrate Janis: Little Girl Blue (a 2015 documentary about Janis Joplin) and her voice is both exquisite and gritty. She's bound to also tell a tale or two in between songs in this intimate setting as well.

Simon Burke: Something About Always

How good does, "From Play School To The Palladium" sound? We'd be pretty happy if we were Simon Burke, that's for sure. This show will see Burke performing his favourite songs by artists such as Nina Simone, Paul Simon and Judy Garland (as well as some tunes from Burke's debut solo album Something About Always) and with musical direction by Daniel Edmonds (Strictly Ballroom The Musical) it's bound to be a dead-set winner.
