It's no secret that Northern Beaches lords STUMPS are one of our favourite recent newcomers to our blossoming indie-rock scene, seemingly going from strength to strength as they deepen their unique, brit-pop-infused indie sound. There was their debut EP Just Another Stay At Home Son, an "upbeat, energetic five-tracker filled with an incredibly pleasing mish-mash of indie-rock and alt-punk sounds", followed by a range of singles that have fleshed out their sound and showed the many sides of a quite multi-faceted group - Conversation, Conversations and this year's Your Old Man - each release expanding what they've presented us and ushering them forward as an exciting band worth messing with.

It seems that the rest of the music world has been enjoying them too, copping a bunch of love on triple j and triple j Unearthed; bringing their ruckus-inducing live shows around the country; and even taking out triple j Unearthed's The Drop competition, which saw them open the Manly leg of the festival before acts like Angus & Julia Stone, The Jungle Giants, Hockey Dad and more. The festival is still going (it's rolling into Busselton on June 1st) and STUMPS are gearing up for a big year ahead, so to give you a taste of what to expect and get you hyped for both sides of this delicious pairing, STUMPS have taken us behind-the-scenes of their performance with a lovely gallery by our king Sydney photographer Pat O'Hara. Dive into it below, and catch them at a pair of dates in June/July which you can find right here:

“Us waiting to get up on stage. We’ve played some larger venues before, but nothing really compared to a huge outdoor festival stage like that." — Jonny

“It was great having such an awesome event North of the bridge. There’s not too much going on around here venue & festival wise, despite the strong musical culture on the beaches. So it was cool to see the whole community come out and make a sick day out of it” — Jonny

“Despite rainy forecasts, we rocked up to a hot sweaty day, so we were pretty stoked” — Jonny

“As the southerly rolled in overhead later in the night, and the heavens opened up we watched thousands give in to the rain and music. Goes to show how thirsty we are on the northern beaches for A-grade live music.” — Kyle

“Equal parts bewildered and appreciative of every crowd we perform in front of. We try to pay back their love with passion and sweat. Lots of sweat.” — Kyle

“It was super surreal playing alongside some of the biggest names in Aus right now” — Michael

“Sometimes when I’m playing I forget I’m on stage... haha, yeah, this is definitely one of those moments” — Michael

“I’d like to think I look like a sea-legged Buddy Holly on stage. Turns out I look more like an inflatable tube man out the front of an Autobahn…” — Kyle

“Chuffed to be on a stage large enough to not worry about clocking the boys over the head with my guitar.” — Kyle

“Yeah it was nice to have a bit of room to move around on that stage, rather than being lodged between a drum kit and a fold back" — Merrick

“Overall it was a fun day, met some friendly new faces, would definitely do again” — Merrick

“Special shoutout to The Jungle Giants for leaving behind a few margaritas for us to polish off backstage.” — Jonny
