Jack Black is reportedly set to join the cast of the upcoming Minecraft movie, based on the hugely popular game of the same name.
Black, fresh off his villainous turn as Bowser in the blockbuster hit The Super Mario Bros Movie, is set to take on the role of Steve in the highly anticipated film led by Jason Momoa, according to Deadline.
Joining Black in this adventure are already announced co-stars including Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugene Hanse as they bring the beloved video game to life on the big screen.
Minecraft, developed by Mojang in 2009 and acquired by Microsoft, holds the title of the bestselling video game of all time, with an impressive 300 million copies sold and nearly 140 million monthly active players. The film adaptation is a collaborative effort between Warner Bros, Vertigo, Legendary, Mojang/Microsoft, and Jason Momoa's On the Roam production company, with Napoleon Dynamite’s Jared Hess at the helm as the director.
The funnyman is no stranger to featuring in such flicks — he recently nabbed an Emmy win for Outstanding Voice Performance in a Children's or Young Teen Program for Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, with the actor set to reprise his role as Po in the upcoming DreamWorks Animation feature Kung Fu Panda 4, scheduled for release on March 8.
Speaking on his first Emmy win, Black said in his animated acceptance speech: “Thank you, this, I’m really nervous and stoked to be here.”

“It’s been the role of a lifetime, I’ve had so much fun over the years,” he said.
The actor then looked at his phone to see if he had forgotten anyone in his thank you speech.
“Oh my god I’m glad I looked at it,” he continued. “The main person, my wife Tanya Haden. Hell yeah, dude, If I didn’t look I would have been that guy!”
“The true dragon warrior, Tanya Haden. I love you, baby, this is for you,” he added.
In the meantime, fans of Black can catch him in the Lionsgate feature adaptation of the video game Borderlands, hitting cinemas on August 9.
Meanwhile, Black and Kyle Gass' musical duo, Tenacious D, are set to kick off their European tour as part of the Tenacious D and the Spicy Meatball Tour.
