Guys were ripping their shirts off – who are we kidding, girls were doing the same – and it was the party to end all parties.

The whole night was let down by inexplicable volume. Where it should have been lightly massaging nerve endings it felt shrill, and mid-level swells felt hard and punishing. It changed the vibe, and not for the better.

“Sarah Blasko. I love you more than God!” an ardent fan calls out in a thick European accent. There is no doubting that the Blasko’s performance in St Michael’s is a divine liturgy in itself.

Towards the end of their long set, they really crank up the strobe-light madness and ear-wrecking noise, ensuring the ecstatic crowd leaves wholly satisfied.

A great set and proof that electronic music comes into its own as a live performance.

Well received overall, it was moments like the MT show that remind you of the living icons Australia has in the lead-up to the healing holiday long weekend.

At the close of another 40 degree stinker of a day, the huge soft slashes of Nick Allbrook’s guitar are perfect balm for the heat-weary.

Lyrically it feels like they're targeting far too narrow an audience but sonically they have finally got it right.
