"It only takes a few songs to get the growing crowd moving and thrashing to every note."
Fledgling club night Wildlife has been making its all-too-happy mark on the Brisbane music scene these last two months, rearing its head with great bands and great discounts for punters.
The ninth installment of this event, hosted by The Zoo, proves to be no exception, with countless people lining up to take advantage of the cheap entry, the free pool, and the notorious $5 'Bin Juice' special, which leaves even the most hardened goon-punch veterans weak at the knees.
Providing the party times and opening tonight's set are local party icons and VB fangirls YELLOWCATREDCAT. What starts as a nearly empty room suddenly explodes into a throng of friends and fans within mere moments of the first sounds of action, all of them ecstatic with anticipation to hear new single Animal, which the two-piece launch today, and they do not disappoint. It only takes a few songs to get the growing crowd moving and thrashing to every note, with energies running high during singles Spiders and STARS, the former having a few nice spins on triple j and triple j Unearthed upon its release in December 2014. Towards the end of their set, the duo (made up of guitarist/vocalist Isaac Rogers and drummer/bad boy Adam Head) finally bring Animal into the mix, among a thrashing crowd of people singing along as best they can. They finish off their killer set with a faithful cover of Bluejuice's Vitriol, Head leaving his drums to be played by friends who have crawled their way onto the stage while he and Rogers scream the words into a sea of voices screaming the words straight back at them.
After a brief intermission, a few more drinks and a game or two of pool, Melbourne two-piece From Oslo grace the stage. Having only recently finished up their No Sound tour, the punk-rock duo are at it again, here in Brisbane tonight on the first stop of their five-date Nobody's Original tour. With a sound not unlike DZ Deathrays, they have the room running on high energy in no time, the crowd like a writhing, angry ocean. They're a formidable live force, with high-energy guitar and monstrous drums, the duo never once staying still; it's a constant flash of movement and action.

After the bands have finished, the throng of people move their energy back into playing pool and drinking beers, and it's hours before the crowd starts to diminish. It's a true testament to the hard work the team behind Wildlife have been putting in over the last few months, with many more stellar line-ups and great Thursday nights at The Zoo to come.
