Youngsters killin' it

More Tkay Maidza More Tkay Maidza

17 year-old Brisbane producer/singer JOY aka Olivia McCarthy hopped on stage shortly after 8pm, singing and mixing in tracks for her set. She had a sweet, breathy kind of voice but remotely lacked any sort of stage presence, looking as though she was mucking about on her laptop in the comfort of her own home instead of supporting Tkay Maidza and playing a show at GoodGod.

Electronic/hip hop producer UV boi took to the stage soon afterwards, resuscitated the crowd and lifted the energy in the room with his mellow, bass-heavy tracks, complete with iPhone samples, bossy beats and voiceovers. The 18 year-old Brisbane artist dabbled with electronica, trap and hip hop, consequently capturing the attention of everyone in the room.

19 year-old pocket rocket Tkay Maidza jumped on stage in a signature oversized jumper, thanked everyone for supporting her and announced she had sold out her second Sydney show. She kicked off with crowd favourite, Brontosaurus, before getting into an adorably catchy new electro-pop track called Wishes. Her long-time collaborator DJ Elk worked the production while she bounced around on stage with U-Huh and M.O.B., which had been produced by DJ Elk and mixed by Andrew Dawson.

Tkay announced her last song and showed signs of walking off stage before the audience started to chant her name, hysterically screaming for an encore from the magnetic Adelaide rap star. She followed through with another new track, Handle My Ego, collaboration with Aussie electronic producer/songwriter Badcop. Tkay rounded up her set with the track that landed her the final spot in triple j’s hottest 100 countdown, Switch Lanes, before hopping off stage to a wildly excited audience screaming her name and yearning for more cheeky, attitude-filled goodness.
