Sum 41 ProfileFrank Zummo – best known as the drummer of Sum 41 and currently the drummer for German rockers Electric Callboy – performed and gave advice to School of Rock students in Sydney last Wednesday (9 September).
100 students and families attended an exclusive, free event in Sydney last week, which offered young musicians the opportunity to perform alongside Zummo.
Students from School of Rock locations in Macarthur and Bella Vista gathered and performed with Zummo during an exclusive workshop at the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney.
This year, the drummer is embarking on a workshop tour that partners with School of Rock and stopped in Sydney on Electric Callboy’s just-wrapped Australian arena tour.
In addition to performing with the house bands of School of Rock Macarthur and Bella Vista, Zummo led an interactive Q&A, sharing stories, advice, and lessons from his career before signing autographs and taking photos with students and families.
Zummo is an avid supporter of School of Rock and works with its students globally, using workshops and performances to inspire the next generation of musicians to get out there and perform.

“This is my first time doing a School of Rock event in Australia, which is so special,” Zummo shared last week. “I’ve been working with School of Rock doing these for many, many years… Crazy stuff that I’m getting to do with the kids to just inspire them.”
When an up-and-coming musician asked Zummo for advice in pursuing a music career, the drummer said, “Just do it. If that’s what you want to do, it’s tunnel vision. It’s like, ‘I’m not going to stop. There’s no Plan B.’ Honestly, from five years old to this moment currently, that’s been just like, ‘I’m not going to stop until it happens,’ and stay on that path.”
Zummo performed with Electric Callboy for the first time in late 2024. He was touring with Sum 41, who cancelled their Australian tour after singer Deryck Whibley became ill. Looking for a positive outcome in the situation, he embraced an unexpected opportunity with the German rock outfit.
Zummo then completed Sum 41’s final run before he was invited to return with Electric Callboy on a festival run, and has remained with the band ever since.
