Peddling heavy stop/start dynamics and muddy guitars, this trio polish their sound with a trudging, self-pitying aesthetic. The repeated, mournful introductory tones of opener Cold Hearts effectively showcase their unusual take on minimalist progressive metal. Leaving us starkly alone with a meandering riff, this track plays up a sense of anxiety, while frontman Jasper Webb's brutal vocals are the sonic equivalent of a rusty nail through the foot. This bold start isn't matched by the rest of Red In Tooth, which becomes samey, following a standard hardcore recipe. They play Phoenix Youth Centre, 11 July.
