Middle KidsIndie trio Middle Kids deliver six tracks that highlight their skill of crafting stimulating lyrics and catchy instrumentals. It’s the kind of record you can put on for any mood – it’s happy, it’s sad; it’s pensive and it's playful; it's political, but it would also be well placed in the soundtrack to a tween/coming-of-age film.
Salt Eyes is moody and reflective with boppy bass lines and chaotic drum beats. It lets itself down toward the end with repetitive lyrical and melodic lines. Redemption comes with Needle – you can feel the gritty sounds of emotion in singer Hannah Joy’s voice from beginning to end but it's the keys and guitar that are noteworthy on this one. Call Me Snowflake is nothing but good fun thanks to its fast pace.
New Songs For Old Problems is held together by retrospective tales and catchy melodies, ultimately creating a sound that could be described as a melancholic rainbow. It’s reflective misery, projected through a feelgood, electro-pop sound.
