YUMI ZOUMA, the four piece from New Zealand, and are ready to rock your world with their debut album Yoncalla. Their first track 'Keep It Close to Me', is an elusive synth tune, perfect for a lazy Sunday or road trip playlist.
The band have already had success with two EP's, with both impressively created with the band members all living in different locations across the world, but they have finally (physically) gotten together to create the beautifully artistic Yoncalla.
If you haven't heard of Yumi Zouma yet, you probably should get on that. Having never played live together, the band were asked to open for both Chet Faker and Lorde in 2014. 'Yoncalla' is the first time that the band have sat together to create their music, finally not bound by distance. “Yumi Zouma has always been an exercise in refining ideas and collaborating,” reflects guitarist Charlie Ryder, “but this was the first time we weren’t limited or protected by distance. With Yoncalla, the process was different, and it can be scary to present raw ideas to your friends ‐ but it’s also incredible to see songs evolve through the sparks of inspiration that bounce between people in the same room.”
'Keep It Close to Me' reflects homage to the the devastating earthquake that hit their Christchurch, their home town, 5 years ago. The track itself shows a simple percussion, with bouncy keys and a dreamy voice. Listen here:
