Album Review: Junk Son - Beginning Ending Pretending

"Truly modern pop moods that obsess about time, memory and loss."

South London producer Junk Son deals an elegant slab of electronic soundscapes that slip deep into slow and seductive vibes.

Minimal but spacious atmospherics make for immersive listening and, when the beats kick in, Junk Son's dealing out svelte grooves. The mix is as smooth as silk but closer listening reveals plenty of compositional detail that reflects Junk Son's classical training at Goldsmiths. While the synthesisers shimmer, it is interesting to hear the saxophone riffs and subtle acoustic guitar that claim their space in the mix. Guest vocalists embrace disconnected and alienated but truly modern pop moods that obsess about time, memory and loss.
