Live Review: Jet, Wild Honey

"Every second person was wearing a 'Get Born' shirt."

More Jet More Jet

Sitting on a picnic blanket with a drink in one hand and some cheese in the other, looking out on the Sydney skyline as the sun sets to the sound of Aussie rock — it really can't get any better than that for a Thursday evening.

Wild Honey fired up their guitars and we succumbed to their sweet, hazy tunes and our inner desire to bliss-out into peak weekend mode. Unsurprisingly, the audience dug Eye To Eye, and those that knew the words sang along, while newbie Pull It Together was also well-received.

However, it was clear that everyone was there to see the Jet reunion show (I mean every second person was wearing a Get Born shirt); cracking into Get What You Need before announcing this was their first Sydney show in over half a decade.

They wasted no time in giving the people what they came for — bangers Rollover DJ and She's A Genius followed. Then the time came to get out the acoustic guitar and keys to chug out some ballads, which created a bit of a lull in the performance, but they recovered with bouncy Seventeen.

A five-year break doesn't come without its false starts and forgotten words, but Nic Cester kept it together for the most part; while the rest of the band made each song sound record-perfect-- props to the sound team, as this was by far the best sounding outdoor gig we've been to in recent times.

Inevitably, a Jet gig wouldn't be a Jet gig without Are You Gonna Be My Girl, in which Andrea, seemingly a random girl plucked from the mosh, got the honour of leading on tambourine and singing the opening lines of the last chorus (which she royally stuffed up).

Thankfully, they tore through Rip It Up and Cold Hard Bitch without the audience's help, before seeing us off with slow burner Lazy Gun.
