'It's All Faintly Ridiculous': Pond Wade Through Dissatisfaction For Hope On 'Terrestrials'

Live Review: FEATURE ARTIST: sleepyhands

A spontaneous seven-piece indie band from Sydney with a lush, dreamy sound.

As a lover of alliteration I am excited to write the next sentence. Introducing Sydney’s stunning, spontaneously-created, seven-strong sensation: SLEEPYHANDS. And as a lover of trivia as well (can you say "free bar tab"?!) I've collected some facts for you on this alliteration-inducing band:

1)      The story goes that on the back of a spur-of-the-moment late-night recording in a mate’s studio, spanning fourteen hours, sleepyhands produced their first 5-track EP in 2010 -- quite a mean feat.

2)      sleepyhands is actually spelt with a lowercase “s”. As band member Tim Anderson says following their all-nighter recording “I guess it kind of described how we felt at the end of it”

3)      They have played along-side acts such as Jinja Safari, Deep Sea Arcade, Strange Talk, and Holly Throsby

4)      They released their own version of Christmas Carols in December 2011 And to All a Goodnight - definitely better than my mum’s Bette Midler version that she never fails to play every Christmas Day.

And now to their music…

It seems only fitting that the music of sleepyhands matches its namesake. They have produced tracks with beautiful layering and arrangements that hold these dreamy and haunting harmonies that seem to float along and carry you away. It’s as if you're flying along with them and you find yourself in a dream-like trance as you listen to each of their tracks.

Keep an eye on these guys, they could be the answer to our loss of The Middle East.
