"The 'Love Monster' tour is definitely shaping up to be a success."
Who knew that a venue could hold so much talent in one night? The Tivoli proved it can with Alexander Biggs and East joining rising Australian star Amy Shark for a night of melodic bliss.
We commence the night with Alexander Biggs, with the crowd being put at ease by his enchanting music and kind stage presence. The room feels at peace as he plays his set, possibly due to the sincerity in his performance. Seldom ever do we see an opening act engage so greatly with an entire audience, who are more typically just awaiting the main act. This truly speaks volume of Biggs’ talent. If this performance is any indication, it’s fair to say he’s going to go on to do ‘Bigg’ things in his career.
A change of pace, with East continuing the night. Melisa Bester, or East as she is more widely known, bounces around the stage throughout each song. Bester delivers a sweet set, evidently having fun along the way. She delivers her final tune for the night, Life Goes On, which sees audiences engage in a sing-along. The crowd then settles back in to wait for the main act.
The moment arrives for Amy Shark’s set, with the crowd eager and awaiting her presence. Shark greets us with You Think I Think I Sound Like God. Shark delivers this through a silhouette of dark shadows. With a sense of calm in this first song performance, the crowd is hypnotised. It’s only after the song is finished that we notice the massive letters on stage spell out her name. We have a spike in energy with Blood Brothers up next, followed by I Got You. She addresses the crowd casually and expresses her appreciation for the tour.
Interestingly, the crowd is not fully engaged with Shark at this point of her set. A sort of lacking attention can be observed from around the room, with a great deal of chatter amongst patrons. This, of course, excludes the ‘diehards’ who can be found front and centre. Shark soon manages to pull the audience back in with a humorous anecdote about a past lover called Peter. We see a sudden rise of energy for the next few songs, Middle Of The Night, Mess Her Up and All Loved Up. However, it’s Shark’s rendition of the singalong classic Teenage Dirtbag that really grabs the crowd's attention, and thus far is the highlight of the show.
To wrap things up for the night, Shark jokes about how her encore will play out. She almost breaks the fourth wall of gigs in a sense, which is an endearing and very entertaining moment. The ‘last’ song for the night is Weekends, a performance to which is not anything extraordinary but still appreciated by fans. Shark delivers Adore, which is touching and emotional. To send the crowd home is I Said Hi. A great tune, a big hit and a good way to end the night. The Love Monster tour is definitely shaping up to be a success.
