Wu-Tang ClanWu-Tang Clan co-founder, Oliver “Power” Grant, has passed away, Billboard reports. He was 52.
The New York City hip-hop group confirmed Grant’s passing. However, his cause of death has not been reported.
“Rest in Power, Power,” Wu-Tang Clan wrote, captioning a clip in tribute to their bandmate on social media. Individual members have also paid tribute to Grant.
Method Man wrote that his bandmate was on his way to “paradise” and to have “safe travels,” adding that he was “not ok” following the news.
GZA added that Wu-Tang Clan wouldn’t be the same without Power.
“‘Word life, peace to Power and my whole unit’ We couldn’t have done it without him,” GZA wrote on Instagram. “Wu wouldn’t have come to fruition without Power. His passing is a profound loss to us all. My deepest condolences to the fam.”
Raekwon also shared love for Grant. “POWER we been everywhere …. now you everywhere ! the most high is merciful love you,” he wrote on social media.
Grant was a childhood friend of RZA’s and was pivotal in forming the Wu-Tang Clan. He also served as an executive producer on all of the group’s albums.
Steve Rifkind, who signed Wu-Tang Clan to Loud Records, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media. “Power I can’t believe this. We met in May of 1993 and have been brothers since,” Rifkind wrote.

“The laughs the cries we traveled the world together. Strongest Handshake and Hug anybody can give. I’m at loss of words keep on looking over us the way you always looked out for all of us when you were here. My condolences to you and your family and the WuTang Family just remember we made History. Going to miss you like crazy rest in peace.”
The news of Grant’s passing followed the announcement that Wu-Tang Clan have been nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for the first time.
Wu-Tang Clan are set to tour Australia for the final time next month.
The Final Chamber tour is set to celebrate Wu-Tang Clan’s rich catalogue. Songs that have never been performed live, deep cuts, and tracks from their debut album, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), and their Grammy-nominated second album, Wu-Tang Forever, will all feature on the upcoming shows.
