More WIIGZ More WIIGZ

Brisbane (Meanjin) pop duo WIIGZ have announced they’re breaking up to focus more on their respective solo projects.

The news came in the form of a statement shared on social media, wherein Hannah Brydon and Zoe Hilditch said the project has been “a significant part” of their lives and felt “extremely grateful for your love and support throughout this journey”, but they’ve jointly “reached a point” where WIIGZ no longer serves them artistically.

“Right from the moment we met each other,” they wrote, “WIIGZ was born from pure friendship, creativity and silliness. It’s been such a wild experience jumping into this industry with no prior experience and absolutely riding the wave that it took us on. As time has [passed], we have found ourselves needing space to grow as individuals.

“We appreciate your understanding during this transition and make sure to follow us as we embark on these new ventures! The memories we made in WIIGZ will hold a special place in our hearts forever.”

The pair went on to say their short time in the Aussie pop scene gave them “the opportunity of a lifetime”, and shared a handful of heartfelt shoutouts. They wrote in a caption shared with the statement: “Thank you to our hot and sexy fans who came to our shows and the overseas [and] interstate ones that always showed us love on social media. We literally couldn’t have done this without you.”
